Staff members work in individuals’ homes, offering training and assistance whenever and however needed, ranging from 24 hours a day to just a few hours each month. A variety of supports—including assistance with developing money-management and budgeting abilities, community safety skills, nutrition and meal preparation, housekeeping and personal-care skills—are provided to residents of Joplin, Kansas City, St. Louis and Springfield. We currently serve more than 575 individuals through our Community Living Services.
EARLY CHILDHOOD SERVICES
Easter Seals Midwest’s family-focused Early Childhood Services help at-risk children achieve more in life. At our early education center, teachers incorporate an age-appropriate curriculum and innovative technology into the learning environment to meet the needs of children both without and with special health needs or developmental disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy and other diagnoses. Additional Early Childhood Services include physical, occupational and speech therapies, as well as in-home screenings that promote brain development and positive parenting techniques. These early-intervention services help young children at risk for developmental delays achieve their goals in cognitive, social, emotional, communicative, adaptive and physical development. Nearly 300 children and families in the Kansas City region are assisted through our Early Childhood Services.
Easter Seals Midwest’s Employment Services support more than 800 individuals with developmental disabilities as they build job skills, and find and maintain competitive employment within the community. Staff members assist individuals with career exploration and discovery, job-skills assessments and job-placement services, as well as on-the-job coaching and retention supports. Meaningful day programs that include volunteering opportunities and job-skills development are offered, and teen employment programs also are available. Employment Services are provided in Cape Girardeau, Kansas City and St. Louis (services vary by location).
