"It's amazing what Easter Seals Midwest has done for my family. People don't know good organizations like this one exist. They don't realize just how much help this organization provides," says Mary, EJ's mom.
Mary had many years of desperation as she and her husband Joseph struggled to understand and cope with their son EJ's behavior. EJ, now 11, has Autism.
"He was disruptive in public and could not be left with other caregivers," she says. "We were unable to run simple errands. In school, he struggled and had few friends. We felt like we had no where to turn."
Help came when Mary found Easter Seals Midwest. Through the organization's day services, EJ is learning to be independent and is developing friends for the first time in his life. "Before we found Easter Seals Midwest, EJ was a very lonely little boy," says Mary.
EJ also is now receiving needed therapy through Easter Seals Midwest to help him with his socialization skills and impulse control. "What this organization has done is amazing," says Mary. "I can't imagine these services not being there."
